Needing a night out on the town without all the ruckus? Maybe some great acoustic music and a cheap beer? That sounds like our kinda night, too. Here are a few of our favorite acoustic venues to visit in the Austin area. We trust you'll love them as much as we do!
Cactus Cafe - UT Campus
This intimate, quality listening room is actually a hidden gem on UT's campus... but once you find it, it is a magical experience. It is open to the public, and although it's located on university grounds... I don't recall seeing any students in attendance. Folks come from all over to play and listen in this very quiet, respected room. It can be a little pricey at times, but the tradeoff is well worth it.
Strangebrew is a hole-in-the-wall coffee house off Manchaca Road in South Austin. I stumbled upon this music room when I accidentally walked in the wrong door and found myself in an acoustic room instead of a coffee house. Whoops! The coffee bar is conveniently just a few feet away, should you need a little extra pep in your step when going to hear some new music.
Ah, the legendary Saxon Pub. This incredibly iconic concert space not only hosts big live talent on the weekends, but also transforms the space on weekdays to host free happy hour shows in a listening room setting.
When you're looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy the weather and quality music, look no further than Luckenbach Texas. Be sure to check out the Sunday Songwriter Series hosted by the amazing Courtney Patton.
Radio Coffee & Bar
Radio Coffee Bar is a tiny little coffee bar and patio hidden in a neighborhood in Central ATX. It's charm, unique vibe and diverse group of musicians make up for the slim-pickin's parking.
**Hint: get there early ;)
